Midnight Magic marked an important transitional moment for the Commodores Released in 1978 on Motown, the album blends the group’s tight funk grooves, polished soul arrangements, and late-1970s pop sensibility. It was also among the last Commodores albums featuring Lionel Richie before his departure to pursue a hugely successful solo career.
