Benny and Us is a groove-heavy collaboration between Scottish funk outfit Average White Band and soul legend Ben E. King. Released in 1977, the album blends tight horn arrangements, silky basslines, and King’s unmistakable soulful vocals. The project bridges classic soul and late-70s funk, producing standout dance-floor cuts and smooth mid-tempo grooves. The biggest hit, “A Star in the Ghetto,” became a crossover favorite and remains one of the most celebrated tracks from both artists.
